You know how sometimes when someone says something but it only hits you days later...
Well, here's something a dear sayang of mine said while we were talking about God knows what (usual la tu...). She said, "virginity is over-rated". Is it really?
Well, you see, I knew what Karma Sutra is before I turn 13. I knew what doggy or 69 is at a very young age. I talked (and still do) about sex quite (and to some, too..) openly. I remember when I was 14, Matthew Tan (some idiot from Sek9) was convinced that I'm not a virgin just because I knew more than all his girlfriends.
The thing that bothered me was, he was not the only know who thinks so. Apparently, a huge number of people thought the same thing. But the thing is, I'm a very curious girl so I tend to know more but that doesn't mean I'm doing it. I know how to kill people (thanks to Hollywood) but that doesn't mean I kill people. You know what I mean?
I may talk alot about it because most of the people I mix with has cashed in their "V" card adey so, if I were to talk about it, malu only because I know only sexual intercourse theoractical and no more than that. Eg. The best time to have babies is about 3-5pm because apparently, sperms produce most about that time. and and and, women is their 30s and 40s have higher sex drives compared to women in their 20s. (did you know that? see... trivial stuff.. and well alot more la but I think it would inappropriate to put it in here..)
During a discussion in class about Sex and Sexuality : Western culture vs. Asian Culture amongst a majority of mature aged students put me in my place more than ever. They did not talk about sexual positions nor did they talk about their latest session but they were talking about it in a mature manner. So, from there, I take it that everyone in the class cashed in their "V" card except for Michael (acclaimed strong Christian with strong Christian believes who thinks that porn should be banished from the face of the earth, pre-marital sex is a mortal sin and gay marriages are just plain wrong), Andrea (who's strongly against pre-marital sex and gay marriages) and me (who thinks pre-marital sex is a no-no if there's nothing more to it than just sex and thinks gay marriages are fine).
It got me thinking... (I'm sorry.. very thing is so random and there is no structure what so ever and this is NOT an aguementative essay.. its just my thoughts flowing.. )
Is virginity really over-rated? Am I just all talk?
You see, I'm 20 this year. And in about 8 months, I'm turning 21. The age where adulthood dawns on you (it doesn't matter if you're still studying because in the eyes of the law in every single country in the world, you're an adult). And I'm still a virgin despite all the temptations. Am I proud of my virginity? Hell yea.
Do I ever want to lose it? Hell yea.
Do I want to lose my virginity to celebrate my entrance into adulthood? No.
But you see, to me it solely depends on when I'm ready and if the person I do it with is someone worth it to lose something so sacred and important to me. Would he be worthy enough for me to give a part of me to him? It's not a religion thing or a ticket for me to join the club that concerns me.
In a way, I suppose, I romanticize how sex would be like for me because from a young age, I've been a hopeless romantic thanks to people like Kimberly and Adrian. I want it to be beautiful and I want it done out of love and not just pure lust or being caught up in the moment. Because to me, personally, a pure lust filled head is not the way to lose a part of you but rather giving a part of you out of the act of love. Make sense?
So, I guess this is my conclusion after much consideration...
Virginity itself is not over-rated but how people view sex these days IS over-rated.
There are psycho people out there who sell their virginity on eBay. One of the Big Brother Housemates last year, purposely lost her virginity before entering the house because she didn't want to be the only virgin in the house. If I'm not mistaken she was 21 at the time.
Some say they can't wait to lose their virginity, and talk of it like they can't wait to graduate high school. Some say, its better to wait. But the thing is, is losing your virginity has anything to do with age?
I mean take 40 year old virgin as an example. The very fact that he is 40 and still a virgin is laughable and pathetic. But if you see it on the religious point of view, he's doing the right thing because he's not married.
Hmm.. is that why people get married at such a young age before? To get laid?
Questions questions questions.
